Information about area schools
Primary and Secondary Education:
York County public schools offer excellent educational opportunities for students and are ranked among the best in the state of South Carolina. The county is divided into four school districts; Clover (also serving lake Wylie), Fort Mill, Rock Hill and York. With relatively small districts and active community involvement, parents have input and oversight in the education process.
Colleges and Universities:
Winthrop University in Rock Hill and USC-Lancaster in Lancaster, SC offer a full range of degree programs. York Technical College is an award winning institution in “high tech” and trade skills education. Clinton Junior College, also located in Rock Hill is committed to both a liberal arts education and vocational training. There are also several highly rated institutions for higher education located in the near by Charlotte area. UNC-Charlotte with its 20,000 student campus is a doctoral/research intensive university. UNC Charlotte is composed of seven colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences and six professional colleges — Architecture, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Information Technology, and Health and Human Services. Davidson College and Queens University are two nationally ranked liberal arts institutions. Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) has the largest student enrollment of any secondary school in North Carolina and offers associate degrees and certifications in almost any career field.
